Selected student comments about these courses:
Introduction to Sociology:
- This is one of the most well-organized courses I’ve ever taken. The professor is very helpful and always will to answer question.
- I particularly liked that Wynn was flexible with their grading model, assigned multiple (3-4) articles each week as well as videos making each week’s topic more interesting and to where us students could learn that week’s theme through more than just one article or one video opposed to being mandated to read/watch just one article or video, and that Wynn always showed enthusiasm and understanding of the material in the lecture recordings and in the discussions over the week’s content with us students during office hours. I truly think that Wynn is going to make a great professor some day!
- I appreciated the flexible structure the professor modeled the course around. I’m sure it was helpful for many students struggling through these difficult, uncertain times. I also thought the lessons/readings provided each week were engaging and thought-provoking.
- The professor prepared intuitive materials while also providing an open space to discuss and examine the course. The professor also was good at checking in and making sure the workload was doable.
- I liked how flexible it was. Everyone was able to comfortably contribute their own thoughts on a subject.
- I really enjoyed feeling like we were all equals. It boosted my confidence a lot knowing I was a college student, and what I had to say mattered.
- Freedom to express opinions, open discussions, and the endless amount of outlooks on each topic. Really changed my perspective and made me more understanding of others.
- For me, it being my first all online class with such a heavy reading set, I just had a hard time keeping up, BUT that’s college baby!
- I particularly liked how we explored a wide range of topics.
Alcohol & Other Drugs, Hate Crimes, and Law & Society:
- Wynn is an extremely helpful and knowledgeable professor who was great at supporting fulfilling and interesting discussions on the topic. I appreciated the diverse array of materials we were given to study the subject in regards to podcasts, papers, the field trip, etc! I also think the focus on one hate crime for our papers and final project is a great assignment idea.
- I liked learning so much about a subject I actually knew so little about. It was fascinating to learn more about the many complex factors that go into hate crimes. The readings were filled with so much information. The Holocaust Museum was a great experience too!
- I like that we had a mix of readings and videos and we were encouraged to say how they connected
Gender & Sexualities
- I thought some of the readings were informative and was grateful to have been able to engage with them, because I don’t think I could have found them on my own. I liked that we had a journal reflection each week that encouraged us to reflect on our experiences with the readings and the media that we watched!
Sports in Society
- I liked many of the documentaries/videos since I enjoyed seeing applications of the theories we read about.
- There were so many readings that I had no previous knowledge of that fascinated me. I enjoyed them very much.
- Made me think deeply about sport in society from a sociological standpoint.
